MCC 2014: DAN CORMIER, REGISTRATION UPDATES AND GOODIES!

29 05 2014

Summer-type weather has already arrived here in Maryland and I am glad for it.  The warm weather gently encourages people to get outside and take in the beauty of their surroundings even though inside work continues to beckon them.

Dan Cormier's Surfboard Choker

Dan Cormier’s Surfboard Choker

One of the beauties of creativity is that you carry it with you.  Dan Cormier, who is teaching his 2-day workshop “Pattern Up Front: Decorative Veneers” and 1-day workshop “Form and Finish: Bare Essentials” has done just that.  Originally living in Canada with his partner, Tracey Holmes, and their son, Griffin, they picked up roots several years ago and transplanted themselves to Mexico.  I don’t think he ever skipped a beat.  Dan, a very gifted artist, continues to create his meticulous art in Mexico and has recently traveled to Malta and to the Czech Republic to teach.  After taking a workshop from him, you will appreciate even more the purposeful refinement of his pieces.

A few spaces still available in both of his workshops. Click here to download registration form and workshop info.

stampglassbraMarie Segal has revised her class and will be teaching a 2-day translucent workshop only.  She’s been working with translucent for years and is thrilled to be able to share her tips and techniques.   Click here to download registration form and workshop info.

NOTE: There are still a few spaces available all workshops except Melanie Muir – hers is full.

Every one loves Goodies!  Well, we’ve got some for you in addition to some special things being planned for the evening hours.  You’ll get some time to play with new products and watch some demos.  Maybe even a field trip!  Don’t wait…last day for the $30 discount is coming up, May 31st, just 2 days away.  Get your registration in now – you don’t want to miss it!

MCC 2014: INTRIGUED BY TRANSLUCENT? JOIN MARIE SEGAL OR PONSAWAN SILA FOR CLASS

12 05 2014

Confused by translucent clay too?  Well, Marie Segal and Ponsawan Sila have both been working and experimenting with translucent clays and will bring their lessons learned to their workshops at Master Class Camp.  Marie, who has been working with polymer for decades, has recently been doing some extensive experimenting and is bringing what she has learned to her class.  I just love the DELFT~!

Ponsawan loves using inks with Pardo translucent clay.  Her results are stunning especially with her wirework.  She was a finalist in the IPCA Progress and Possibilities competition this year.  This will be Pons’ first time teaching at a Creative Arts Fest event and we are so pleased to have her join us.  Click below to register for her 2-day wire and polymer workshop.  For more of Ponsawan’s work, visit her Flickr site here and here.

Space is still available in both workshops and the discount still applies.  Pay have now and the other by June 15th…

Did you get a gift certificate to Master Class Camp for Mother’s Day?  No???  Well, it’s never too late to ask…come join us!

Master Class Camp is not for Master artisans.  It is for artist like you and me who want to learn new techniques and take their work to the next level.  All of our instructors are teaching something unique…something that identifies them.  Many polymer artists out there are unsure of how to use translucent clay.  Is it just to be used for background to flower canes?  Can color be added to it?  If so, what should you use for color?

Ponsawan loves using inks with Pardo translucent clay.  Her results are stunning!  This will be Pons’ first time teaching at a Creative Arts Fest event and we are so pleased to have her join us.

MCC 2014: DEVELOPING AND REFINING YOUR WORK – FOR BEGINNER TO PROFESSIONAL – REGISTRATION CONTINUES

6 05 2014

Someone wrote me recently and asked if they would be allowed to attend Master Class Camp since they were not a Master Artisan.  That’s when I realized that perhaps another explanation of what CREATIVE  ARTS FESTS Master Class Camp is all about.

1. You DO NOT have to be a Master Artisan to attend.

2. You DO need to have the drive and desire to improve your techniques when creating your work.  Your color palette, design concept, and finishing techniques all need to be developed and refined to say – hey, this is my work and I’m proud of it.

3. You DO need to want to immerse yourself for 2-6 full days in the teaching from the very eclectic and talented instructors who are coming to teach from all over.  They love to share their knowledge and it’s important to keep your mind open for some mind-changing Ah-Ha moments that may change your path.

That being said,  Lindly Hauanai, Sarah Shriver, and Sandra McCaw will all use their variations of the Skinner Blend technique to develop your color palette and compose beautiful blends for use in your work.  Each of them have their own twist on color and teach very different concepts.  BUT, they all are seasoned professionals and well worth the time you will spend with them to develop your own twist of their techniques.

Don’t wait…we are just 2 1/2 months away from MCC and workshops are filling.  Discount applies if you get your registration and full payment in by May 15th SO – WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?  WHAT IS YOUR DREAM FOR YOUR WORK?

KASSEL Animal Angel Pendant

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  Yes, I am still here and haven’t forgotten…we sometimes just have to roll with the punches and take things as we can.

The holidays may have come and gone, but the feelings of giving continue to linger.  This was the first Christmas without my Mom and her absence continues to leave a hole in my life.  But, she was always about giving, as was my Dad, to anyone in need and her charitable ways continue through her children.

I am sending warm wishes to each of you for the coming year and praying that it is a year of renewal and good changes for you. This past year hit many of us hard and was a year of big changes for me but I am looking for a brighter year in 2014 with so many possibilities.

Good news is, as we enter this new year, registrations for CFCF 2014 from Feb. 12-19 continue to come in even this close to the event and we still have availability in many of the workshops.  Availability is listed at the end of this post for those who are interested.

The supply lists, FAQs sheet, tribute form (Sarah Shriver and Elise Winters are the 2014 Creative Pioneer and Innovator Award Recipients and we will be having a special tribute to Gwen Gibson) and auction donation documents are available.  Please don’t hesitate to email me with any questions you may have.
A reminder: pre-conference workshops are stand-alone and can be taken independently.  We have just opened up the conference for “day-trippers” – fee is $170 and includes two 4-hour workshops and admittance to the Tuesday evening celebration.  Workshops do not need to be taken on the same day.
Be certain to follow us on our blog to get the latest on our upcoming events: www.polymerclayfests.wordpress.com

Christian and Maureen hard at work

Registrations have been rolling in and we’ve been on the road again.  Spent a few days with Maureen Carlson and her family and friends at Maureen Carlson’s Center for Creative Arts in Jordan, MN.  If you’ve never been, you don’t know what you are missing. We met some of her local friends/artists who meet at Maureen’s every Friday for a gourmet pot luck dinner and some quality crafting time with friends.  Daughter, Renee, made some incredibly tasty crock pot oatmeal for breakfast and her husband, Dan, spent some time entertaining my son, Christian, when he wasn’t busy making Maureen’s face molds.   I’m hoping to schedule a retreat for me and some of my besties sometime in 2014.  Contact Maureen directly here to schedule your time for a little R and Arts!  And thank you, Maureen and family, for a wonderful visit.

Christian and the band

We also attended my brother’s wedding in Minneapolis and had a memorable time with family. Dancing and much celebration and revelry going on.  It was a happy time for all and Christian became an official honorary member of the band.  He was awarded the best dancer of the evening award from the band’s lead singer.

CFCF 2014: REMEMBERING AN INNOVATOR – GWEN GIBSON

28 09 2013
Gwen Gibson 1934-2013

Gwen Gibson 1934-2013

As the Summer closes and Fall begins, I look back and think about why we are here. What happens as the seasons of our lives change?  Earlier this week, seasons changed in the polymer world as a true icon left us. Gwen Gibson (1934-2013) was truly an innovator, not only in the world of polymer, but in the world of the creative and inspiring spirit.  In her words, she had  “An appetite for fresh experience and the need to keep moving (to) take me places I would never have imagined beforehand. Because I find the unknown tempting, I’m often drawn to projects that have no predictable outcome…” We lost the physical person of Gwen this week on September 24 at 4PM PDT, but her spirit and influence will live on, driving many to experiment in their work and take the next step, not knowing where it will lead, but knowing that they will enjoy the journey getting there. With the approval of her husband, Jerry, we will be paying tribute to

Gwen during the CFCF 2014 evening celebration, including awarding a CFCF creative scholarship in Gwen’s honor.  Dayle Doroshow, Sarah Shriver, and some of Gwen’s other friends will share with us many good memories about her gentle spirit and creative genius.  In addition, attendees are invited to make Gwen-inspired beads to donate and trade. If you’d like to help us celebrate Gwen’s life and to join us for one, two or up to eight days of creative fun and celebration, click HERE to download the registration form and workshop descriptions.  Then, warm up your clay, put on your thinking cap and let your imagination take you to where you’ve never been before.

SHRIVER Intricate Kaleidoscope

SHRIVER Intricate Kaleidoscope

First, I sincerely thank you all for your patience these past couple of months and in the months to come as I deal with some important family issues.  But, I have not forgotten about you…it’s just taking me a little longer these days to get the work done and out. The good news is we completed our first Master Class Camp in between trips to Wisconsin and it was a great success.  Dates are already set for MCC 2014 and whew, I’m exhausted! More good news is that I am certain that the wait for CFCF 2014 info will be worth it. First, we have two honorees this year for the Creative Pioneer and Innovator Award.  Congratulations to Sarah Shriver and Elise Winters.  They have both, in their own way, contributed so much to the polymer community and we are excited to be able to recognize their contributions at the Awards Celebration on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 … more to come on this. Below is the line-up for CFCF 2014.  We’ve added a couple of pre-pre-conference workshops for those who like longer classes and our favorite 4-hour workshops for those who like to get the most from their travels.  Note:  workshops will be held simultaneously.
