28 12 2008

I hope that your Christmas/Holiday was as good or better than mine.  I had an opportunity to spend some quality time with family.  It also provided me with some much needed quality time to reflect on past, present, and future.

Speaking of future, the early registration deadline for CFCF 2009 is fast approaching on 4 Jan. 2009. For those of you teetering on whether to register or not or just need a refreshed list of what each instructor is teaching, please check the links below to review and email me at cabinfeverclayfestival@yahoo.com with any questions you may have.  We truly hope you can join us for this event which will benefit in part the American Cancer Society and the Wounded Warriors Fund.  Lots to learn and plenty of fun in store.

CFCF 2009 – Meet Kim Korringa!

Kim Korringa

Kim Korringa

I’ve been enjoying Kim’s colorful canes for years.  She was a participant at CFCF 2008 and I took the opportunity to ask her if she’d like to teach at CFCF 2009.  After a brief time considering the opportunity, she agreed.  Here’s her PC story as she tells it: “For as long as I can remember, I have been attracted to vivid colors and intricate patterns and detail. As a child I was fascinated by mosaics, quilts and kaleidescopes.  I dabbled in almost every arts and crafts medium throughout my life, and worked for 14 years in Silicon Valley as a technical illustrator, but it was my Mirror Detailpassion for color and pattern that drew me to polymer clay.  I have been working/playing with polymer clay for 15 years now, and though I’ve tried nearly every technique that other artists have pioneered in polymer clay, millefiore caning is my first love.  The intensely saturatated colors and technical detail that I can acheive caning in polymer clay, combined with the wonderful, tactile and childlike experience of working with the clay, is truly satisfying to me.”

Kim Korringa’s CFCF 2009 Workshop…Flower Power Mirror

10 09 2008
FlowerPowerMirror

FlowerPowerMirror

Kim has been working in polymer clay for a LONG time and her blending and selection of colors is just so much fun.  In her CFCF workshop offering, participants will create individual petal and leaf canes to decorate a 12″ x 12″ wood frame mirror.

Her signature style is whimsical and playful and above all, boldly colorful.  The canes she makes are technically very precise, but she likes to be a little unconventional in their arrangement.  Her teaching will  introduce you to her technical knowledge of caning techniques and design principles.

She plans to have a “pot-luck” exchange of short lengths of the petal, leaf and flower center canes created in her workshop so all participants will take a little of their classmates home with them!  We welcome Kim and look forward to this fun and colorful workshop!
