MCC 2015: BASKETS AND MATRIX – COMPLEXITIES SIMPLIFIED

1 05 2015

I am so very excited to have two of the leading men in the polymer world, Jeffrey Lloyd Dever and Dan Cormier, joining us again for Master Class Camp.  These two have mastered their look and feel – in other words, their work is easily recognizable.

Hope from Heart of Darkness

DEVER – HOPE FROM HEART OF DARKNESS

Jeff is a full-time business man, heading up a graphic design business with his wife, Kay.  He is an award winning artist and has his work displayed in museums and galleries around the country.  He returns to MCC and brings us his miniature baskets combined with hollow ware  for jewelry.  The detail is exquisite and the colors pop!  He doesn’t teach often, so get him while you can!   Updated workshop information is here.  Register online for Jeffrey’s workshop here.

CORMIER - MATRIX CANE

CORMIER – MATRIX CANE

Dan Cormier is another master.  He has been working in polymer for decades and has become known as a perfectionist – and his work shows it.  He will be visiting us once again all the way from Mexico and if we are lucky, we’ll have a chance to visit with his son, Griffin.  Dan has taken his Matrix cane technique to the max and I am very excited to see what he does this year using his signature templates, dies, and cutter.   Updated workshop information is here.  Register online for Dan’s workshop here.

MCC 2015: FOR EXPLORATION AND THE COLOR INQUISITIVE

23 04 2015

I’ve experimented with color since childhood, whether with crayons, paints, and in the last 15 years – polymer.  However, I know that there is always more to learn and and many techniques used to achieve the final rainbow of colors.

HAUNANI - EDIBLE COLORS

HAUNANI – EDIBLE COLORS

At MCC 2015, you will have two workshops specifically designed to test and explore your personal color palletes.  Lindly Haunani is one of the best in the polymer world for working out your color spectrum.  Her new workshop, Incredible Almost Edible Color, will take you to from zero to sixty in your color pallete.  These luscious colors can make many hungry to taste test their own recipes. Thanks to Cynthia Tinapple at PCD yesterday, Lindly’s workshop is filling fast.  If you want in, register today! Updated workshop information is here.   Online registration can be found here.

HOLMES - PICK-A-COLOUR

HOLMES – PICK-A-COLOUR

Tracy Holmes, partner to Dan Cormier, is not new to polymer, but she is new to teaching at Master Class Camp.  I was intrigued last summer when Tracy taught an impromptu mini-color workshop at MCC 2014, so I asked her to expand on it and invited her to teach this year.  Tracy and Dan have been working for years to develop different color palletes that marry nicely with his bead shapes.  They have certainly accomplished that.  Join Tracy and learn another way to experiment with color. Updated workshop information is here.  Online registration can be found here.

MASTER CLASS CAMP 2015: ONLINE REGISTRATION OPENS WITH A BANG!

22 04 2015

Yes, as you can see we are finally moving into the 21st Century with online registration – and so far, so good.  This year’s event brings us two talented instructors from Germany – Anke Humpert and Jana Lehmann.

HUMPERT - FUNGUS

HUMPERT – FUNGUS

Anke’s offering is a new direction for her.  She had two new pieces with her when she taught at Cabin Fever in February and I admired them both. As a matter of fact, I took one of them home with me as the auction winner.  The other, the Hungry Fungus, went home with Nan Roche.  Needless to say, she received raves about both pieces, so I asked her to teach a 2-day class at MCC 2015. Updated workshop information is here.  Online registration can be found here.

LEHMANN - GRAPHIC CANES

LEHMANN – GRAPHIC CANES

Jana Lehmann is a master at creating graphic designs with polymer.  I’ve admired her work for sometime.  Her bright colors and crisp lines have intrigued me and I am so pleased to have her join the ranks with us at MCC.  Not much info that I can find on a website, but go to her Flickr and Pinterest pages and find lots of eye candy. Updated workshop information is here.  Online registration can be found here.

MASTER CLASS CAMP 2015 – REGISTRATION OPENS TOMORROW!

21 04 2015

Get ready for another six days of intensive instruction from some of the best.  Details coming tomorrow – but in the meantime, enjoy these luscious photos of the projects/techniques you can learn!  Updated workshop information can be found here.  Click here for online registration.  NOTE: Payment is due upon registration.

CFCAF 2015: 4 DAYS TIL COLLABORATION – Artists working together

8 02 2015

Collaboration in many fields is the key to success.  So it is in our world as well.  This year, we have two collaborative teams to choose from.

Karen and Ann Mitchell

Karen and Ann Mitchell

Ann and Karen Mitchell are the first and  have been collaborating since they were children…they are sisters after all.  Together, they created ANKARA Designs over two decades ago and their success lies in their ability to create new work.  Their inspiration comes from all around them and they will be sharing their focus in two workshops at Cabin Fever next week.

The first is their full-day workshop on Friday, 13 Feb., is about Engineering and Design in Jewelry Construction. Together, they create each piece to be as unique as they are and they will share their tricks and tips with you on putting your components together into a spectacular piece.

Their second offering is a 2-hour mini-workshop on Monday night, Feb. 16, from 7-9.  In this brief time, Ann and Karen will talk with you about ways to get out of that creative rut and find your unique style and inspiration. Both workshops still have availability.  You can also register onsite for the 2-hour minis.

ROCHE - BAUHAUS

ROCHE – BAUHAUS

The second collaborative team we’d like to look at is Nan Roche and Marie Segal.  They’ve known each other for years, but it wasn’t until 2013 that they decided to collaborate on a teaching venture.  It worked!  So they are back again in 2015 teaching their polymer take on Bauhaus design on Friday, 13 Feb. I can guarantee never a dull moment in this workshop and so many ways to apply the technique.  Openings still available.

CFCAF 2015: MAUREEN CARLSON TO RECEIVE AWARD

2 02 2015

Maureen has been working with polymer for decades and chances are, one of the first face or foot molds you used were one of her designs.  If you’ve ever visited her studio, Maureen Carlson Center for Creative Arts in Jordan, MN, you’d see just how spirited she is – even down to the real faerie door in the tree by the creek!

102_1984

We are honored to present this year’s Creative Pioneer and Innovator Award to Maureen.  She has blazed the trail for many of us and created inspiration all around.  Her spirited work and thoughtful creative process has helped many focus on what’s important – just living.

If you are interested in attending or would like to send a congratulatory note, please email Kathryn at cabinfeverclayfestival@yahoo.com or leave a comment below.

CFCAF 2015: FEB 12-18, RING IN THE NEW YEAR WITH A GIFT TO YOURSELF -YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS

1 01 2015

Happy New Year to you all!  Now that the holidays are over and the New Year has begun, it’s time to give your creative spirit a gift.  Join us for this one-of-a-kind event, now in it’s 8th year.

Take advantage of an opportunity to fill your days with classes from a choice of 16 different instructors (Maureen Carlson, Jana Roberts Benzon, Robert Dancik, Dayle Doroshow, Christi Friesen, Lindly Haunani, Anke Humpert, Doreen Kassel, Randee Ketzel, Ann and Karen Mitchell, Melanie Muir, Kathryn Jo Ottman, Nan Roche, Marie Segal, Eugena Topina, and Teri Walters) and make new friends.  Take away skills and techniques to improve your work and develop a style all your own.

There are two things that set this even apart from any other:

First, CFCAF has the largest number of polymer instructors gathered in one location.  You have your choice of which classes you want to attend and have a 24-hour room to work in while not in class.  There is also an opportunity to show and sell your work to your peers.  Attendees of Cabin Fever range from novice to professional artists, some who have been attending since year one.

Second, the auction at CFCAF has each year benefited one or more charities including American Cancer Society, CERF, and Wounded Warriors Fund.  This year will be no different.

So, what are you waiting for?  CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE REGISTRATION FORM AND WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS  and register today.
