THE VALUE OF A FACE-TO-FACE HANDS-ON WORKSHOP: COME AND HAVE FUN WITH FRIENDS

How do you like to learn your craft?  These days, there are many more choices that students can make when it comes to how they learn techniques and projects.  All are good in their own respect whether it be online, a video, or in a classroom (see some of the photos above from previous Creative ARTs Fests events.)

However, I believe there is nothing better than being in a classroom, face-to-face with the teacher, watching as they work their magic and amaze students with their techniques.  Master Class Camp offers this opportunity from eight internationally acclaimed instructors and you can take up to 4 workshops over 4 days in a laid-back environment.  Interacting with other students and learning more tricks of the trade is fun too.

So, what are you waiting for, my friends?  Jump on board with the other folks who are excited for MCC 2016.  We’ll save you a spot!

TWO MONTHS AND COUNTING – WHO WILL YOU CHOOSE?

19 04 2016

Nope, not talking about the election, although I find it fascinating and scary at the same time.  I’m talking about learning and absorbing every bit of knowledge that can possibly fit into your brain.  I’m talking about growing and using your creative energy and steering away from inertia.

Honestly, that’s where I’ve been for the past 6 or so years.  Not able to find enough time in the studio and dealing with a creative block – one that I intend to break through this year.  So, in selecting instructors for the Creative ARTs events, I consider many things, including the medium (preference to polymer) and look at how much the artist/instructor pushes themselves to develop new and exciting avenues for their work.

I can say that each instructor at Master Class Camp in June has excelled at this.  It’s positively packed with the kind of mental energy to move me and others willing to take the plunge, onto the next phase of our body of work.

So, I ask you this question again – Who will you choose?  Workshop information and registration form is available here.

OF THE GROUND AND THE SEA: SCULPTING NATURE’S RELICS

There has been a recent trend exploding onto the art scene – back to nature/faux pieces.  Donna Greenberg has been a shining light with her various microbial experiments and studies in fossils and coral.  The time she has spent with the detail work really makes me question sometimes – is it real?  She is just so good at it!

We are pleased to have Donna joining us for the first time at Master Class Camp along with our other artists/instructors.  Her workshops will teach those curious students the ins and outs of making realistic looking coral and bone fossils.  For information on the workshops available and to register for June’s event, download workshop descriptions and registration form here.

Melanie Muir has been wowing people for a while now with her sophisticated statement pieces.  Her new style is no different – bold and angled.  She seems able to use a keen eye to piece things together until is it’s just right.

Join Melanie at Master Class Camp for yet another take on her Mokume Gane using some of her detailed stamps specially developed for this technique.  Or, bring your own!  You can download info on hers and others workshops at Master Class Camp here.

POLYMER AND METALSMITHING – FOLD FORMING AND GEM SETTING

12 04 2016

Gotta be honest here – there are few jewelry artists who I admire as much as Robert Dancik for his ability to use almost anything (concrete included) to create one-of-a-kind eclectic jewelry pieces.  When I see his work up close, I say to myself – I’d like to be this good someday.  Every piece unique and carefully, or not, thought out, balancing color, texture, and medium.

Robert will be returning for his third time to Master Class Camp and has decided to share his fold forming and gem setting techniques incorporating polymer as the focal piece.  He has been busy these last few years, so we are pleased to have him joining us again.

Both of his workshops will be one day and are guaranteed to take you to a new level of possibilities. You can read more about Robert’s workshops and download the registration form here.

CUBIST vs. NATURE – WHAT WOULD BE YOUR CHOICE?

Doreen Kassel first came to teach with us 4 years ago.  Since then, she has developed her work into a true art of “what can I do with some white clay?”  Her fans and students continue to be enamored with her work.  I particularly love her rabbit characters – have you seen them on the NYC subway?

The workshops she is offering at Master Class Camp are no different.  She has taken a step in another direction with the cubist approach…looking forward to seeing where this leads her.  And her botanicals have developed even more with blooms and buds.
