PCCAF Midwest 2010: Instructor Shirley Rufener-Pastel Floral Pod

6 09 2010

Rufener-Translucent Chalk Pod Floral Pendant

Shirley Rufener lives in Oregon with her husband and two children.  She is a nationally known author and certified professional TV demonstrator for the craft and hobby industry. She “found” polymer clay in 1985 and has been hooked on it ever since.  She has published 3 books and has appeared several times on the former Carol Duvall Show and appears monthly on the popular AM Northwest show (KATU the ABC affiliate) demonstrating polymer clay and many other craft techniques.  Her skills as a designer are known for being original and clever. For years she has worked with craft manufacturers writing books and magazine articles and demonstrating their products on TV.

Students will be pleasantly surprised at how well soft pastel chalk sticks and saturated Pan Pastels work with polymer clay. During this workshop we will discover and apply several different chalking techniques, some of which were introduced in Shirley’s newest book “Polymer Clay Mixed Media Jewelry”. The workshop will focus on Shirley’s original painting with “chalk pods” surface floral technique as we create a pendant, as well as a technique sampler with as many additional chalk techniques as time allows for. This is a technique driven class that will expand your creativity to use mixed media in your work.
